What is the difference between skin hydration and moisturization? And are you doing it correctly?
When you start thinking about it, you might feel that skincare is very complicated and you don't really know where to start.
But we have good news: even though there is a difference between hydrating and moisturizing skin, there's a good chance you're already using ingredients that do both.
Which is better: skin hydration or moisturization?
In short, these actions overlap in some ways. However, hydration usually refers to replenishing lost water in the skin, while moisturization refers to replenishing oils. Neither of these actions is better than the other, and for healthy skin, you need both.
Which comes first – hydrating or moisturizing?
It is recommended to apply hydrating products before moisturizing ones.
Hydrating products, such as toners or essences, help replenish the water content in your skin. Applying them first can ensure proper skin hydration, which is crucial for maintaining its health and vitality.
But before you do that, make sure you properly cleanse your skin (we highly recommend taking the time to thoroughly cleanse your face with a cleansing balm) and exfoliate your skin with a hydrating toner, such as D22 Tonic. This will ensure you get the maximum benefits from the products you apply later.
Natural exfoliating toner D22 Tonic contains birch water – also known as birch sap, which has been used for centuries as a multifunctional medicinal tonic, especially in Nordic and Baltic countries. Known for its high content of minerals, amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, sugars, and antioxidants, birch extract is a common cosmetic ingredient because it does many things: it moisturizes, cleanses, stimulates collagen levels, soothes, prevents inflammation, tones, and brightens the skin, improving its tone and smoothness. It can also help prevent sun damage and the appearance of freckles.
Does my skin need hydration or moisturization?
Your skin needs both hydration and moisturization. We recommend starting with lighter products, such as a hydrating serum, and then applying a moisturizing cream.
When you use a hydrating serum, such as Mega Serum, the cosmetic penetrates deep into the skin, and it becomes firm and hydrated. However, to maintain proper skin hydration, you need to apply a moisturizing face cream. "If you don't moisturize after serum, the moisture will quickly evaporate," says Danucera founder, Danuta Mieloch. "Moisturizing, in my opinion, is sealing everything into the skin. This way, you protect the skin barrier and create a foundation for the entire day, so that the skin maintains both hydration and moisturization."
Good news: Hydrating and moisturizing your skin are easy to achieve with various skincare products. Danucera Mega Serum and Cream Supreme will do the job, while also providing your skin with a range of additional benefits – from supporting the skin barrier to improving its radiance and boosting collagen production.
